I am really enjoying the Olympics and the success that the U.S. athletes are having - especially in gymnastics and swimming. A girl from our area swam in some butterfly events and helped the girls relay qualify for the 4 x 100 individual medly relay. She didn't get to swim in the finals, but the team did get the gold medal, so she gets a gold medal too as part of the qualifying team. Congrats to her!!
I was a competitive swimmer since the age of 9 and then all the way through high school. I like to think that with the proper training and a really great coach, I might have qualified for at least the Olympic trials. As it was, I made it to a lot of state and regional finals in the backstroke and relays. I had a ball, and I can still remember that feeling of "butterflies in my stomach" right before each event. Those were special times.

- I was raised in South Florida back in the years when it was a peaceful and wonderfully safe place to live. We lived a mile from the beach and could ride our bikes over the intercoastal bridge right to the best beach around. All my years of growing up I was a competitive swimmer and belonged to AAU. I granduated from Florida State University with a BS degree in nursing. I am recently retired but I'm thinking of going back to work to support my hobbies.
