IT'S OSCAR NIGHT - I JUST LOVE IT!!

Ever since I was in love with movie stars when I was a teenager, I've watched the Oscars.  Most of the time I had actually seen the movies back then, because there wasn't as many of them, and I had my favorite stars and movies that I wanted to win.  Now I wait and see the movies on Pay Per View or DVD instead of paying a fortune at the theatre.  And we can record the Oscars and watch them the next day - while fast-forwarding through the commercials, which is what I'm going to do.  I hope Les Miserables wins a lot, and I am sure that Anne Hathaway is going to win best supporting actress, but I'm not sure of any of the others.  I just saw "Argo" the other day, and it was really good, and might win for best picture, but I can't see why Ben Affleck wasn't nominated for Best Director.  I think he has been nominated for something though - is it actor?  Who knows?  At any rate, there's too many categories and so forth to keep up with anymore, so I just watch the stuff I'm interested in - which is mainly the movies I have seen.  They show so much of each movie, that it helps me decide whether I want to see the movies I haven't seen yet, which is most of them.  I did see "The Life of Pi", and it just won for Cinematography.  Good choice there.  Well, that's all I have to say about this - got to watch while I can.  Talk to you later.

YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!!

Today, while my husband was watching the multitudes of bowl games that were on TV, I went to see "Les Miserables", the new movie that opened Christmas Day.  As I have mentioned in a previous post, "Les Mis" is my favorite musical play of all times, and this movie does not disappoint either!  I know I will be going back to see it again soon, because there are always so many things you miss in a motion picture that is nearly 3 hours long.  It is very true to the original play, and Colm Wilkinson, the original Jean Valjean, portrays the priest who saves Hugh Jackman (Valjean in the movie) when he steals silverware from the church.  I thought that was a very nice tribute to the man who made the role famous.  Anyway, even if your husband or boyfriend refuses to go to a musical, go yourself, or, better yet, go with a girlfriend or two.  Then you can cry together.  Ann Hathaway is wonderful as Fontine, and I think she'll probably get at least an Academy Award Nomination.  Ahhhhh, there's nothing I like better than a great movie that touches my very soul, and this one did. 

LES MISERABLES - SAW IT TODAY FOR THE THIRD TIME!!

OMG!  If you haven't seen the Broadway musical "Les Miserables", you MUST try to see it sometime in your lifetime!  This is the third time I have seen it, and it still moves me to tears when Jean Valjean sings "Let Him Live".  Five of us ladies from our church went to see the off Broadway performance at the beautifully renovated Tennessee theatre in Knoxville, and I tell you,  the actors/singers were outstanding!  I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I even managed to get a photo or two (one really good one) during the performance - even though all photography is strictly prohibited.  I just couldn't resist.  All the while I kept thinking that probably God had made a mistake and had given me someone else's voice.  I just know that I was meant to have a voice like the girl who played Cossette, or maybe Eponinne.  But, of course, God doesn't make mistakes -it was just a slight over-sight, and I have learned to live with my lack of singing ability by listening to the ability of others and pretending it's me up there on stage.  Of all the times I've seen this show, the singers in this one were the best.  Of course I never saw the one with Colin Wilkinson, but I have the video recording of that original cast.
