I have seen enough rain in our area lately to last me for the rest of the year! Seriously, it has been the wettest summer I can remember. Fortunately we live on a hill, so we don't have to worry about flooding on our property, but the roads are being flooded by the creeks and making driving very dangerous. Our crop of tomatoes is so water-logged that they're mostly rotting before they ripen. So discouraging!
On the plus side, I've had a lot of chances to just stay at home and scrapbook. I also have a new passion - making paper flowers by hand. I use any double-sided paper I can find. When I get some pictures taken, I'll post them.
The writer speaks of the common occurences in the life of anyone who scrapbooks regularly and finds that she (or he) has spent more on scrapbooking tools than on food for the family. There are musings about a hobby that creates a mess wherever you work at it, and as long as there are unscrapped photographs anywhere in the house, it never ends. And there are always new and wonderful products coming out that one HAS to have!
About Me
- Judy G.
- I was raised in South Florida back in the years when it was a peaceful and wonderfully safe place to live. We lived a mile from the beach and could ride our bikes over the intercoastal bridge right to the best beach around. All my years of growing up I was a competitive swimmer and belonged to AAU. I granduated from Florida State University with a BS degree in nursing. I am recently retired but I'm thinking of going back to work to support my hobbies.

LAST NIGHT I SPENT 2 HOURS IN A BASEMENT
Have you ever hidden in a basement from a tornado? Well, last night my husband and I did, as well as did
many other people who live in our area of East Tennessee. We had heard that bad weather, with possible tornadoes was heading our way, but by 11:00 P.M., the weather was still quite calm. We could hear thunder way off, but it didn't seem to be coming any closer. We decided to watch the 11:00 news, just in case things might have changed. And they had! My cell phone rang with the weather alert alarm just as the weatherman's cell phone did on TV. And it said that really bad weather, including tornadoes was heading right towards us. Yuk!! Right at bedtime, never fails!
We don't have a basement in our house, and we live on top of a hill, so we headed down the hill to my brother-in-law's house. He does have a basement. We actually sat out on his front porch and listened to the rain and watched the multitudes of lightening strikes. The wind never did pick up much, but we had to head downstairs finally because a bad "tornadic storm" was headed our way. Nothing ever happened, though, except our poor Brittany spaniel "Nicky" was scared to death of all the thunder noise and kept trying to get in the basement too. So, at 1:00 A.M., we finally decided to go back home and go to bed - the storms had passed on.
Now tonight, we're under storm alert again, but this time, we're staying home.

HOME AGAIN, AND IT'S POURING RAIN.
I left our lovely scrapbook haven at 3:00 this afternoon, so I was home shortly after 4:00, and on the way home I got a call from my daughter reminding me that today is my husband's and my 45th wedding anniversary. I had totally lost track of what day it was up there in the mountains! But I had time to stop at Walgreens and get a card and some "goodies" for us to munch on before I got home. 45 years - that's a pretty good feat! We celebrated by going out for dinner, which was necessary, because there was nothing at home to fix for dinner. LOL! It's been a great ride, and I have a terrific husband. He puts up with my crafting and the mess it makes, as well as my many pets through the years.
Right now I'm watching the Golden Globes, and I was so glad that Ann Hathaway won for best supporting actress in "Les Miserables". It's good to be home in my own bed listening to the rain pouring down.
