DON'T GO NEAR THE WATER

This is our little grandson, Eli, at the beach last year. He would not go near the water, but enjoyed sitting under the beach umbrella watching the others frolic in the waves. He dug in the sand. It was a cute photo, and so typical of him, that I decided to paint a picture around it. I used a small canvas frame and "painted" it by daubing VersaMagic Chalk Ink on the canvas to create sky, clouds, and a semblance of sand. Then I drew lines in the blue area to represent the ocean. I made a few fake sea shell using molding clay in forms and just letting them dry. I then painted them with pigment dust. The frame I made with regular white card stock that was chalked and then triple-embossed with thick clear embossing powder to make it look like a glossy frame. After I placed the picture in the frame I went ahead and stuck real shells and glass beads below the picture, securing them with Tacky Glue. I also used some stamping in the sand area, that randomly says "Near the sea we forget to count the days". It really didn't take that long, and this picture hangs on the wall in our bedroom.
